How to Measure Yourself Accurately (Professional Guide)

Bust / Chest

Measure around the fullest part of your bust/chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. Wear a non-padded bra for accuracy. For men, measure around the widest part of the chest.

Waist

Find your natural waistline (narrowest point, above the belly button). Relax and breathe normally; don't suck in. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

Hips

Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips/seat (approx 8–9 inches below waist). This ensures correct fit for dresses, skirts and trousers.

Pro tip: Different brands use varying size standards. Our calculator provides a reliable baseline based on international ISO and major retailer datasets. For custom tailoring, always verify with brand-specific size guides.

Plus sizes & body shapes: Junior and plus sizes (1X–4X) follow different proportions (often wider hips and bust relative to waist). This tool covers standard straight sizes up to XXL. If you typically wear plus sizes, we recommend checking the brand's dedicated plus-size chart alongside this estimate.

Why Trust Our Dress Size Calculator?

Developed by getzenquery tech team, our algorithm references ASTM D5585-11(2020) (Standard Tables of Body Measurements for Adult Female Misses Figure Type) and EU sizing norms EN 13402-2:2018. The tool undergoes regular validation against real-world fit data to ensure a high degree of accuracy. All calculations are transparent and reproducible.

The calculator is continuously updated to reflect changes in global sizing trends. Last major update: June 2026 (size ranges and reference standards verified).

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend choosing the larger size for a comfortable fit, especially for non-stretch fabrics. Our algorithm selects the closest match using bust, waist and hip weighting (50% bust, 30% waist, 20% hips). If you are consistently between sizes, also consider your body shape: pear shapes may prefer sizing up for hips, while hourglass shapes can rely on waist match. The "Measurement Insights" box shows which size range fits best — when in doubt, order both sizes if the brand offers free returns.

Our standard table includes sizes up to XXL. For extended plus sizes (1X–4X), many brands use different grading (e.g., 1X typically corresponds to a 43-45” bust). The calculator can still give a rough baseline, but we strongly advise consulting the brand’s dedicated plus-size chart. We are expanding our database to include specialty size tables in a future release.

UK sizes are typically 2 numbers lower than US sizes for women. For example, US size 6 corresponds to UK size 10. Our calculator automatically converts these differences. Men’s letter sizes (XS–XXL) are generally consistent between the US and UK, but EU numeric sizes (52, 54, etc.) are more common in continental Europe.

We review and align with seasonal industry changes annually, plus any major standard revisions. Last major update: March 2026 (standards verification and plus-size advisory added). The algorithm was fine‑tuned using feedback from 500+ real user measurements.
